Homelite 18 in. Bar 46 cc Gas Chain Saw

If you are looking for a reasonable priced chainsaw to do yard work (branch trimming, small tree falling and lumber cutting) you would think this mid-sized chainsaw would be the perfect right?

Well, according to the one I bought at the local Home Depot, it just is not what I was looking for.

Call it bad luck, being a cheapskate or whatever you want, I bought this to do some small odd-jobs around the yard, and was ready to wrap it around the tress and try to take them down that way.

After struggling for 45 minutes to even get it started, it finally did fire up and cut decently for about 10 minutes before it overheated! WTF? I had to leave it sit for half an hour and try to fire it up again. This thing is just too hard to start.

I went thru this routine for the next few hours until finally the spring in the recoil cord must have broke and the cord would not retract!

JesusBoom, this is all I wanted to deal with here. Packed it back up and took it back to the store, and went off to the local rental place and got one for $40 for 2 days which was all I really initially needed it for.

This saw is hardly recommended. I could not imagine an older person trying to start this, or anyone with any kind joint problems. Better stick with their electric version instead.

“Despite many negative reviews I decided to give this saw a try. I used it twice for about 15 min one day and 20 min on another day. The third time I took it out to use it – it wouldn’t start. I tried starting it for 20 min in the morning then tried again for another 15 min later on in the afternoon.
So, after owning this saw for about 3 weeks I returned it to the store.
I should have known this was not a good saw when the store associate tried to talk me out of buying this saw and getting a refurbished Echo for about $40 more. She said I would be much happier with the Echo.”

“This piece of junk lasted a whole 20 minutes. After about 10 cuts, it was overheating and evenually froze up. I know it was not the fuel mix because the guy I was working with was using the same gas. However, he was using a Stihl. Stupid chain brake mechanism pops off constantly when you are trying to start the thing. I have blisters just from trying to start the thing. Pull after pull after pull. I guess you get what you pay for. I will be returning this to the store and will NEVER buy a Homelite product again.”

“Purchased this chain saw because of the price and it was awful. Worked all morning trying to get it to run continuously and it just wouldn’t. I have a 16″ Homelite and have had absolutely no problems with it, but this 18″ was a piece of junk. Returned it and purchased an Echo with the 18″ bar.”
